Chemical Properties

Quartz glass is an acidic material that is inert to all acids except hydrofluoric acid and hot phosphoric acid. It offers excellent acid resistance with better chemical stability than opaque quartz glass, and is non-hygroscopic and non-weathering.

Electrical Properties

Quartz glass maintains high dielectric strength and low conductivity even at high temperatures, pressures, and frequencies. With minimal dielectric loss across applied frequency bands, it serves as an excellent high-temperature dielectric insulation material.

Optical Performance

Quartz glass transmits both far-ultraviolet spectrum and visible light with near-infrared spectrum. It features high temperature resistance, minimal thermal expansion, excellent chemical thermal stability, and optical properties comparable to general optical glass.

Thermal Properties

The thermal expansion coefficient of quartz glass is only 1/12 to 1/20 that of ordinary glass. Standard testing involves heating specimens to 1200°C and quenching in cold water repeatedly more than three times without cracking.

Mechanical Properties

Quartz glass offers better mechanical properties than conventional glass and ceramics, though it maintains some brittleness. While theoretical strength reaches approximately 24×1.3 MPa, actual measured strength is typically lower.

Airtight Performance

The relaxed structure of quartz allows certain gas ions to diffuse through the network even at high temperatures, with sodium ion diffusion being particularly rapid. This property is especially important for specific applications.
